What is Tourist yurt camp?
The most tourist yurt camps in Mongolia set up traditional dwelling which called a GER as their lodgings. Yurt or ger is a traditional portable round tent widely used everywhere in Mongolia. It can be easily assembled and disassembled, making it perfect for the nomadic lifestyle. The structure of a ger is composed of a wooden frame, typically made from lattice walls, roof poles, and a crown (a central circular opening at the top), all covered with layers of felt and canvas. The ger can be taken down within 30-40 min, transported, and set up again within an hour, which is essential for nomadic people who move with the seasons. The felt covering provides excellent insulation, making the ger warm in the cold Mongolian winters and cool during the summer. The round structure is strong enough to withstand the harsh winds and weather conditions of the steppes.
Depending on each tourist yurt camp’s theme design, you might encounter some ger-designs derived from older time like XIII century or more modern gers like house-ger scenario installed. Moreover, in order to meet the modern world’s trend and tourists’ needs, the most tourist camp custom-design their gers with bathroom and shower installments as well as twin or deluxe gers, etc. Either way, gers can provide you significant comfort and contentment.
Every tourist yurt camp has public toilet and shower establishments, where tourists who are staying in regular gers can use for their refreshments. Depending on each yurt camp’s capacity, the quality of service differs. However, as the tourism is developing sector in Mongolia, the service quality is gradually improving each year.
In some yurt camps, electricity can be a problematic. Some of them are located too far away from general electrical grid, that they have to use electric generators for limited hours. The limited- hours are long enough to charge your electric devices.
